I'm doubting if that's the actual function of the spleen. It can be removed without consequence. It's one of those "useless" organs. I always pictured Hammy as being the remaining kidney. Don't ask what happened to the first one. |

The spleen filters and processes lymph. Lymph is a secondary system of fluids that removes junk that the liver doesn't, but doesn't have a pump like blood. It only moves with physical activity. Hammy's more like the large benign tumor on the side. He's not really dangerous, but he doesn't serve any real purpose. |
