Post subject:  Annihilation TE 2.3 Server

Expect to see this server up and running on the weekends. With some minor complications, and no monitor, Nox and I were able to get a computer set up as a server. Stats for server box:

Intel Celeron Proccessor 400 mhz
448 mb RAM
40x CD-ROM
1 hard drive with Windows 2000 Pro, unable to get Server :(
1 hard drive with SUSE 9.0
2 ethernet cards
1 Piece o' trash video card that has S-video which we hooked up to the TV to setup the computer

Two minor problems:
Right now I can only have one computer running, so I chose mine instead of the server. The problem is that I need to do something called IP Masquerading on the Server computer which will allow me to hook my laptop to the second ethernet card on the server and use it for my internet. Right now I haven't looked for instructions on how to do it, so if someone wants to do that for me, I'd appreciate it.
The other problem is that every time I want to switch comps, I have to run some dumb software from the college which takes about an hour and a half for the server comp, and it will be online, but to use my laptop again, it takes like two and a half hours to be ready.

If someone can find out how to IP Masquerade with Windows 2000 and XP, please let me know. It might be called something else, like Internet sharing or something.

The video card won't work with 2003 or I would have used it. As for the IP, the college doesn't allow us to have a router or hub.

The video card is:
SiS6326

The SiS company only has drivers for Windows 2000 and I have to have that vid card because it hooks to the TV because I don't have a monitor. There's nothing wrong with 2000.

I don't have a hub or a router, so this is my only option. The college says "A router or hub puts more strain on the network and slows it down". They also do soemthing with the IP and I have to register the comp, and I don't know if a router would even work.

the school is wrong.. that network will ahve no problem with that router.. and in fact the router will be another amplifier along the path. the school is just afraid because from any router along hte network someone could send out 10MPS wifi up to 2 km and even relay it with gateways all along the way to whereever they wanted to steal free internet. i get mine from burger king.. all burger kings are a wireless gateway... and they unknowingly host my tribes servers.

sh!t if someone invested a couple hundred in HAM wifi they could sent the school netowrk at 1Gps wireless for up to 30 miles without a relay

Thats why cable companys started to allow routers and even started offering they own brands or routers. because they cant detect if ur using a router to proove that uve hooked into more than 1 computer.

when i worked for time warner the solution was to try to pitch to the customer wireless roadrunner or a second ip and hten if he just wasnt interested anymore to remind him that he can always get a router.

50 bucks is a lot of money when you're in college.
