Ahem.If i may shed some light on the situation. My opinion: AMD pwnz.
AMD: Uses lower frequencies more efficiently, thus, runs at P4 speed or faster, and it runs 10C-50C cooler. In order for it to melt, the heatsink would have to be off.And my Athlon 64 3000+ does do a automatic shutoff at a temp i set. Also,AMD is cheaper for the low to mid range CPU's,but super expensive for high range, but all one really needs is a mid range.
Intel:Came first, has most publicity, and has the cheapest dual core around, also has highest frequencies.Into that,it runs hotter than hell (the 3.4Ghz's in my school are running at 62idle to melting at almost any load,5 are melted out of 15,5 more have melted mobos.),and often REQUIRE water cooling. They also have lower FSBs,and garbage tech support.
I just like my A64 running 25C-35C.
