you dont need over 1 GB of RAM, 1GB is over kill 512 does u nice, maybe 700

HAHAHA says someone who plays no powerful games and doesnt render video or images.(CSS isnt a powerful game)

to run BF2 at all u need a gig.
u want to play BF2 at full performance u best have 2 gigs of dual channel ram. BF2 runs idle in game at 500 - 700 megs of ram. and even with a Gig of ram still dips into virtual memory when loading maps.

throw in windows at 150 - 200 megs at idle.. xfire at 10, msn at 25 -25 megs

my slowest system has 1 gig of single channel DDR and its too underpowered for me to be anyhting other than my dedicated tribes and torrent download server.

Textures, although easily rendered, tend to show the "unprofessional" side of a developer, considering in like 3 years they want to push the limit, and I mean trying to push the limit with a DVD game that takes 6 cds and takes up 1/2 of your hard-drive...

yea BF2 will run on 512 ram... but being that it would constantly be in virtual memory the second u launch the game , loading maps take 15 - 20 minutes a piece.(as opposed to 45 seconds to a minute). u end up missing half or 3/4 of the whole match loading hte map. Gameplay laggs whenever a new object had to be loaded.. the menu screen would barely crawl along..

a GIG is the recommended minimum system requirments.. and they stress right on the box if u have 512 to spend the extra 40 -50 bucks on another stick of 512 to stop perfromance issues when running with 512 megs of single channel ram.

BF2 taks alot of resources not because of lots of textures.. but because of hte size of gigantic outdoor terrains., because of having to track up to 30 different vehicle at a time not counting air vehicles. + 64 players weapons and projectiles.. and player models..

FEAR doesnt even come close to BF2 for performance req.
BF2 is the most demanding game in existance right now.

Not only that but using so much Virlual memory causes the game to crash often. and causes u to not be able to turn up your video performance as high.
.

my hudbot config.(not any of hte ones i have uploaded) uses 450 megs of ram. + 20 for tribes + 30 for Xfire+ 30 for msn + 150 for iwndows... BAm virtual memory just trying to play tribes on 512 megs of ram.
bongsconfig2.1 uses 250 - 350 megs.

Id probably rephrase ur statement to say anyhting mroe than 2 gigs of ram is overkill

FEAR is more graphically demanding on your GPU BF2 depends on your space cuz of all the textures

Textures are easily rendered... cmon, even Bongwater agrees...

I usually have a problem not with rendering models, cacheing textures, but SHADOWS. The freaking shadows. They take my fps down like by 34 frames. Shaders do take down my fps somewhat, but not as much as the dreaded shadows...
