why not...the voltage for the 8 GHz P4 was 1.9 volts, a normal processor uses 1.3-1.4 volts. Only reason they cant sell an 8 GHz chip is because it would need liquid nitrogen cooling, like the 8 GHz P4.

Voltage isn't the actual power going in. The amperage necessary would prolly fry a normal breaker if I'm thinking along the same lines as krog.

no, 1.9 volts was the amout going into the processor. they had to volt mod the MOSFETS to allow that. most of today's PSU's have about 60 amps on the 12v rail (CPU rail)

The guy from IBM said a normal 110 volt outlet wouldn't provide enough power and they didn't think people would want to use a 220 volt outlet for their PCs.

right but there are things that use more than 120v (amount that comes from the wall) IE fridges, other appliances, they use capacitors and other things to store energy then provide a steady supply when neded.

anyways back on topic.

with enough improvements, P4's or Core 2 DUo's can hit beyond 8 GHz, some speculate maybe 12 GHz-16GHz

Oh yes, perfectly safe.

But lets say some rats take a pick at your cooling system. What then?

Just wait. 1THz. :P

Anyhow, my CPU is at 1.2GHz and doesn't even get hot. Wonder what would happen if I overclocked it....

Mine is 2.3 and it runs hot, not overclocked.
