umm , if i remeber corectly the tail gunner position in the transport could diffinatly , i know i used to do it . i dont remember but seeing you can fire from the transport i think you can also used nades. but if you look at the flares i think they are coming from out of frame .Image

Yes, you can throw granades/flares and repair the bomber from the TG position.

*sigh* It's so frustrating. I own tribes vengeance, but I can't play it!!! My comp suxxorz (600mhz, 40 gig hard drive, 12 mb graphics card I think. Major crap.)
