the use of runes is....kinda based on personal preference. personally, i've never heard about use of runes....and i play D&D neverwinter nights, icewind dale, and everything from diablo to finalfantasy. all of which have excessive wizardry. and no runes. nor have i heard of runes used in typical spellcasting in any of the books i've read. the only use of runes i know of is in....summoning. or possibly binding spells.

runes are inscribed with the symbol of the element/power/enchantment that they have been bestowed with. that element/power/enchantment is released and the runes' power is gone. according to what i have learned. as for the stuff u mentioned (the spells), a sorcerer can conjure such spells with their own raw ability. wizards have to study and prepare the spells, as they dont have the natural talent of sorcerers. and of course, wizards (i think sorcerers too) need to have the proper components (those being anything needed to bring the spell into form) to use their magic properly.

Yes hello.

No, staffs aren't necessary per-say, but they do add an extended sensory making spells possibly fquicker and more focused. For instance: when saruman grabbed Gandalfs staff (using telekenesis, the sneaky dog) it didn't take away gandalfs powers. It just gave saruman the upper hand. And as far as I know, when to magics contest and one is overpowered, the effect of the lesser magic is completely nullified.

staves (plural of staff?) are usually just a way for wizards to channel their energy. really, anything with the right properties could conduct a magical current of a spell. altho, sorcerers tend to use just their hands, as they carry weapons like maces. wizards, on the other hand, spend so much time studying that they dont have time to practice weapons so they are only proficient with 'wizard' weapons. like the staff. anyways, lets get denkai a welcome (back) cake. he seems to need one.
